Product Description
Your parakeet or cockatiel is not getting any younger. Budgies (parakeets) that are 5 years old and cockatiels that are 7 to 10 years old could be considered senior birds. That’s because they have already reached about half their expected life span. It’s great that your bird lived so long, but what can you do to help him live his full life expectancy? Veterinary checkups, exercise, and good husbandry are some important factors, but good nutrition is vital.
Although parakeets and cockatiels don’t look much different when they pass from adult to senior, the needs of their bodies change. Arthritis, cataracts, cardiac disease, vitamin deficiency, and weight gain are some of the age-related effects your senior bird might face. Senior Bird Nutri-Berries Parakeet & Cockatiel Food is formulated to optimize nutrition for your feathered friend.
We added herbs like milk thistle for its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effect, as well as dandelion to support bone health and improve liver function. We included ginger — a powerful anti-inflammatory herb — to help ease tendonitis, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and to help prevent blood clots. We also combined the joint-health supplements glucosamine to combat osteoarthritis and chondroitin to ease joint pain and swelling.
Senior Bird Nutri-Berries are also packed with real pieces of age-defying fruits: plums, which provide dietary fiber and are high in vitamins A, C, K, potassium, and beta-carotene; cranberries, which are full of antioxidants that strengthen the immune system by flushing out harmful toxins; and dates, which are iron-rich fruits that contain flavonoid polyphenolic antioxidants known as tannins that possess anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and anti-hemorrhagic properties.
Senior Bird Nutri-Berries offer the same balanced nutrition as our Classic and Gourmet Nutri-Berries, plus they are formulated to meet the special needs of mature birds. They contain 61% pellets, 26% wholesome grains, and 13% fruits and herbs — the perfect recipe for a long, happy life for your pet bird.

My thirty year old Nanday conure has a serious illness and, as a result, was struggling to maintain his weight. I received a recommendation for Senior Bird Nutri-Berries because they are a complete diet with ingredients that provide extra support for a bird in his situation. We tried the parrot size first since he liked that size in the past, but the smaller parakeet and cockatiel size proved easier for him to eat. He has been gobbling them up.
I recommend these for any older bird. I also recommend trying the smaller parakeet and cockatiel size to those with a larger birds such as conures if their birds are having difficulty eating foods that have a harder texture or larger pieces. The size and texture of these smaller Nutri-Berries make them easier for my conure to eat. That in turn means that he is eating more at a time when it is very important for him to maintain his weight.

Have been feeding these to my older Budgies for over a year now, and can truly say they have made a huge difference, especially with a few who have liver issues, who have started to recover. These are very easy to feed and well accepted. I believe the inclusion of the herbs makes the difference, great product, and a great formula! Would be great to have a pellet only version as well, for Senior birds who could benefit from a more concentrated addition of the pellet portion, which I believe is where the herbs and glucosamine are infused, that, however, is just an assumption I’m making. (Could be in the coating) All I know is for sure is this food has improved the health and activity level of my more mature flock members, Great product, thank you Lafeber’s!!

Wow! I put these out in a bowl for Holly, my 8 yr old parakeet and she munches on these for meals and a snack. She loves them!

WOW! My senior cockatiel, Sammy, REALLY loves these! I’m Sammy’s bonded love, so he always waits for me to start eating before he will begin, unless he knows I’m not home… Until now. Now he races to his morning meal everyday (my husband feeds him while I sleep late) instead of waiting for me to get up and eat my breakfast. He still waits for me at dinnertime… unless someone gives him more Senior Berries! He REALLY loves them!

This is the favorite food of our lovebird. The senior version is apparently better for his liver. Just make sure you buy the correct size.

My 12 year old cockateil Helen was underweight and seem to be in declining health. Our vet recommended Nutriberries for Seniors instead of the standard Nutriberries and she just loves it!
Helen has gained her weight back and is more lively again.
I will say buying thru Lefebres instead of a pet store the pellets are softer and chewier as opposed to rock hard bricks after sitting in store shelves for who knows how long.
