\"Hoppes<\/a>Dr. Sharman Hoppes<\/strong> is the owner of Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital<\/a> in Grapevine, Texas and a Professor Emerita (2019-present) of the zoological medicine service at Texas A&M University<\/a> (TAMU). Dr. Hoppes earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 1993. Prior to that, she worked as a registered nurse for 10 years. Sharman completed an avian medicine and surgery residency at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 and she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners<\/a> (ABVP) in avian practice in 2000.\u00a0 Sharman joined TAMU in 2006 and has served as the Medical Director of Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center<\/a> since that time. Her research interests have included avian bornavirus, analgesia, evaluation of alfaxalone, and avian behavior and enrichment. Sharman is a Past-President (2012-2013) of the Association of Avian Veterinarians<\/a>, and she is also an active member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians.
