He obtained his veterinary degree in 1995 at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2004, Dr. Saggese completed a 3-year residency and a masters program at The Raptor Center, University of Minnesota. During these years, he studied the effect of West Nile virus (WNV) on birds of prey and the efficacy of WNV vaccines. Between 2004 and 2007, his research focused on avian tuberculosis while completing his Ph.D. in microbiology at The Schubot Center, Texas A&amp;M University. Dr. Saggese defines himself as an ornithologist as well as veterinarian and he combines both disciplines to better understand the effect of diseases in avian populations.
