While many clients are quick to consult \u201cDr. Google,\u201d the veterinary team should be quick to combat misinformation with credible and reliable guidance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Who is eligible?<\/h2>\n<p>This contest is open to credentialed veterinary technicians, veterinary technologists, and veterinary nurses all over the world (AHT, CVT, LVT, LVMT, RVT, RVN, or credentialed by their country of origin) as well as students attending an accredited veterinary technician\/technologist program (AVMA, CVMA, or other).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Client education materials<\/h2>\n<p>Submit a two (2) page, English-language educational handout (1500 words or less) about a companion exotic mammal health and wellness topic.<\/p>\n<p>A list of proposed topics is included below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dental health in rabbits or small mammal herbivores<\/li>\n<li>Guinea pig nutrition<\/li>\n<li>Chinchilla nutrition<\/li>\n<li>Masking phenomenon in exotic pets<\/li>\n<li>The importance of laboratory testing in exotic pets<\/li>\n<li>Environmental enrichment for exotic companion mammals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other suitable topics are also welcome for submission. If you are concerned about the suitability of your topic, please contact <a href=\"mailto:info@aemv.org\">info@aemv.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Authorship<\/strong>:\u00a0 Submissions may have a maximum of ONE author.<\/p>\n<p><strong>References<\/strong>:\u00a0 Submissions should include suitable references from the primary literature. These references will not be included in the total word count but should include a maximum of eight (8) references.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media<\/strong>:\u00a0 Relevant photographs with illustrative value can be included. If these images contain client-owned animals, the candidate must obtain permission from the pet owner (as required by local privacy laws or facility standards). Diagrams or illustrations must be original content produced by the candidate. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the contest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging criteria<\/strong> are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accuracy of information presented based on current clinical, nutritional, behavioral science<\/li>\n<li>Conciseness of information presented in a client-friendly manner<\/li>\n<li>Relevance of information to pet owners<\/li>\n<li>Quality of references cited<\/li>\n<li>Overall presentation of the topic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>blinding purposes<\/strong>, please:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid including the institution name in the text or illustrations<\/li>\n<li>Avoid including author initials within the text<\/li>\n<li>Include a title page, separate from the client education material.
