He earned his PhD in veterinary infectious diseases from the University of Florida and joined the faculty of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gst.tennessee.edu\/people\/stephen-a-kania\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine<\/a> in 1992. He has combined his interests in molecular microbiology and immunology to study the molecular epidemiology, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance of staphylococci of veterinary importance and to develop vaccines to treat and prevent staphylococcal infections.
