About sun conure

Answer:

Hi Vinaykumar,

Your Sun conure is only just old enough for breeding. It sounds like you started her a bit early, and she is too immature to know what to do with the eggs. I would recommend removing the nest box for now, and giving her a rest for a few months. Laying eggs is very hard on the hen, and already having 2 clutches at such a young age is too many. At most, she should only have two clutches per year. Wild conures will only have one clutch per year. In captivity, birds will overbreed because they do not have the environmental changes to make them stop. After a good rest, give the nest box back and see if they do better. Do you know if she and the male have even mated? Does either bird go into the nest box? Birds need a lot of privacy to breed, and if they feel like there is too much activity around them, they may not sit on the eggs. But I still think the main issue is her young age. After a few months rest, if she lays eggs again and still does not care for them, she may just not be a good breeder. Birds are hard to breed in captivity and some birds never make good breeders. All you can do is provide everything they need and hope they figure it out.
