Did my bird die because of me?

Hello. At the beginning of the summer, my family found a baby sparrow.

The bird had a scabbed wound on its head. The wound healed and the bird’s feathers grew back. The last time he had hair resembling a black beard had grown.

His name was Kushik. Kushik died last month. A large wound appeared under his abdomen, almost revealing his internal organs. He got injured for no reason. His stool was watery.

On November 22, we made a hot water bottle and put it in a basket that it had previously lived in. It was 10-11 at night. I woke up around 7-8 in the morning and it was crowing. He suddenly became silent. Then I went to another room. I did not feed. So that I can feed it later. A few minutes passed and he was dead.

My father noticed. I am really sad. I think he died because of me. I am really sad.

Answer:

Hi,

I’m sorry about your little bird. Most likely the injury to his abdomen caused his death.  If he was kept outside, then something managed to get hold of him and he got away, but with an injury. If he was indoors, he somehow caused the injury to himself. A wound like that would cause an infection and without Vet treatment, the bird doesn’t survive. It is also hard to keep wild birds alive in captivity because of the specialized diet they need. You did your best to keep him comfortable his last night, so he didn’t suffer.

Take care,

Brenda
