Should I Remove Zebra Finch’s Nest

My Zebra Finches(M and F) have laid eggs and 2 of them hatched, they are now feeding the hatchlings. Should I remove their nest after the babies leaves nest to stop further breeding or they wont breed again.

Answer:

Hi,

Yes, as soon as the chicks leave the nest, take it out. You want the parents to focus on weaning, not nesting again. Some parents go back to nesting without weaning the chicks and the chicks die. After the chicks are eating on their own, they need to be moved to a separate cage. Let them parents rest for 4-6 months, and then give the nest back to them. If the chicks end up being male & female, they need to be separated so they do not breed.
