2 month old lovebird screeching

I’m currently hand rearing/weaning a baby lovebird he is around 2 months old but he is stuck to me like velcro and screeches when he isn’t with me, is this normal? If not how do I go about correcting the screeching behaviour.
I’ve also recently introduced him to his cage, if that has any contribution to his clingyness

Answer:

Hi,

A weaning bird is naturally going to be clingy. You need to offer him a lot of foods to learn to eat on his own, and you need to leave him with this food and toys so that he starts learning to eat by himself and entertain himself. If you carry him around all of the time, he will get spoiled and expect to be with you constantly. Anytime you give in and pick him up when he is loud, you undo any progress you have made. I would recommend reading our pages on behavior and watching some of our behavior webinars to learn more about how to work with him.
