Fi nches breeding

My female bird lay an egg this morning which was break because I often remove once they want to started a nest. What should I do now to make her stop laying eggs? She has done 2 clutches since November till now ad there’s 3 baby finches already that is on adulthood.

Answer:

Hi,

If you haven’t taken the nest away, you should do that. She only needs a nest when she is breeding. Take any new eggs away if she lays more. You can try moving the cage to another plane in the room, or to the busiest room in the house, to discourage breeding. If you keep moving the cage around, this is disruptive and can usually stop the pair from nesting. Do not let her use a food cup or anything else to sit in, or she will decide it is a nest. If she gets in the food cup, take it away and replace with smaller cups she can’t sit in.
