Quaker problem

Hello,
My little quaker is 32 yrs old. I hand raised him from 3 weeks. He is showing signs of age but generally has been fine. This morning he as perched beside his little heater (favorite place). Next thing we knew he was on the floor of his cage flopping violently, his head turned completely around. I held him for a long time, he calmed down but still unable to perch and his head still seems crooked. I have wrapped him in a towel and placed in a box. He seems to just be resting and comfy. Is it possible he has had a stroke?

Answer:

Hi Vicki,

I’m sorry your little quaker is not doing well. At 32, he is definitely a senior. Strokes do happen, but this sounds like a seizure. There are many things that cause seizures. The best thing to do is contact your avian vet and see if you can bring your quaker in right away. This could be something that can be treated.

Take care,

Brenda
