Bengalese finch
Why is a Bengalese finch sitting on a Canary nest with 3 babies
Hi,
The problem is you are breeding birds in an aviary or group cage. You should only have one pair of birds per cage for breeding. Breeding birds are very territorial. They will raid each others nests and destroy eggs or even kill chicks. In this case, you have a domesticated finch that is very social and loves to care for eggs and chicks so it just stole the nest and chicks. But there will probably be some fighting over this. A breeding pair will kill a rival if it won’t go away. You need to separate all but the breeding pair of canaries, and after these chicks are out of the nest, remove it and don’t provide nests again if you plan to keep all of the birds in the same cage.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
