Broken tail feather?

Hello, one of my bird’s tail feather broke and she’s bleeding. I put on styptic powder on her tail twice and she’s still bleeding. Our exotic vet isn’t back in the city for 2 more days and no other vet around us wants to see her. What do I do? Its a bleeding nub…

Answer:

Hi,

Your bird broke a new feather, or blood feather, because it still has a blood supply. The rest of the feather has to be pulled out to stop the bleeding. Otherwise it acts like a straw and the bird can bleed to death. You should continue to look for a Vet to help, or possibly you can find a tutorial on pulling a blood feather online.

Take care,

Brenda
