Death of Beloved Teil

Hello. I’m just trying to process some grief. My beloved Hugs passed away on the 22. I knew something had been off earlier in the month, I had take him to the vet and we got him pain meds and when he didn’t improve we got him orbax on the 10th. He on the 15th had started to kind of improve. Picking up eating a bit, but then on wesnday he slowly lost use of one of his feet, then the other. He could walk but not grip, and on saturday and sunday he refused any food, and was weak. He passed away monday morning, the doctor found a blood clot, but nothing else. I’m wondering if he just passed from old age, he was 20 as far as I know, or if he had a disloded blood clot that was making him feel unwell, and we just didn’t know about it, and thats what killed him. </3

Answer:

Hi,

I am very sorry for your loss. The vet would have to perform a necropsy for you to know why Hugs died, and sometimes the cause can’t be determined. He was a senior, and most cockatiels do not make it to their 20’s these days due to so much inbreeding. You did the right thing by taking him to the Vet. Sometimes there isn’t anything that can be done.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
