baby finch

I have been hand raising a finch chick since he was 12 days old. Today he is 30 days old and doing fine. I bought baby parrot powder and mix that with warm water and ground up finch seeds and then I blend a strawberry or blue berry a banana slice some kale and spinach and hemp seed and flax seed and nutritional yeast. Sometimes I add ground up hen’s egg shell for calcium. Is this the right diet? He has been to peck at seeds but still wants to be fed. I think he will need to be fed a couple more weeks?

Answer:

Hi,

The parrot formula should be nutritionally balanced. You can start trying to wean the chick to a finch pellet or granule and a small amount of seed. Chopped veggies and leafy greens can also be offered.
