Bird behaviour

Hi there!!
My question is….
I have a pair of Java sparrow (Java finches/rice Bird). They have been nesting since 15 to 20 day and today they layed an egg in the morning and I observed that the female is not very active, sitting alone closing her eyes not even incubating the egg.where as male is very active and trying to entertain the female by dancing and singing but female is sitting very quietly.can you please tell me why is it so. And please suggest me what should I do?

Answer:

Hi,

It’s possible that she is suffering from a complication from egg laying. While it may seem routine for a bird to lay eggs, it does take a toll on the hen’s system. If she is lacking in any nutrients or is too young, it can cause issues like egg binding. If she has not improved, you should take her to an avian vet.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
