Bird Type

I have a huge birdcage. It’s about 10 x 8. And it’s also deep. I want to get song birds so I can hear their songs. I want very small ones and not many so they will be free to fly. What kind should I get.

Answer:

Hi,

You need to make sure the bar spacing is close enough for small birds. Also, actual native songbirds are illegal to keep in captivity. Male canaries will sing, but they do so to attract a female. Some finch species can have a nice song, but they also sing to attract a mate. If your main desire is to hear songbirds, there is no guarantee that any pet birds you get will actually sing, or sing all the time. I would recommend doing a lot more research to make sure having birds is something you are ready to commit to. They take a lot of care, need nutritious foods and occasional veterinary care.
