BLACK DOT ON BABY BIRDS

MY GOLD FINCH BABIES HACHN WITH A BLACK DOT ON THE GUT AND DIE WITHIN 4 DAYS

Answer:

Hi,

I’m sorry for your losses. Unfortunately there is no way for me to know why they are dying. You can take the chicks to an avian vet and they may be able to determine why the birds are dying. It is very important that you rest your pairs between each clutch. The nest should be removed, and the pair rested for 4-6 months before allowing another clutch. If they have been laying eggs and hatching chicks without being rested, this is part of the problem. Breeding birds need to be fed a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets – a seed diet is not good for them. You should also offer greens, chopped veggies and some fruit. Some finches even need insects. They should also have an egg food when nesting – this can be a dry commercial mix, or you can cook an egg with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the eggs.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
