Breeding

Hi,
Good day. I have curious about bird’s breeding. Do the bird’s mates between with their own siblings? Do we get a healthy offspring by allowed the breeding between sibling/same bloodline?
Thanks and Happy New Year.

Answer:

Hi Joy,

You should never allow related birds to breed. This can result in weak or deformed chicks, chicks that die in the shell or any of a number of other disorders. In captivity, birds do not know any better, so related males and females should not be in the same cage.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
