Hi,
Your birds should be about a year and a half for breeding. If this is their first try, they will make mistakes. Move the eggs to the nest. Canaries prefer an open style nest, attached high in the cage. You should offer safe nesting materials – no hay or grass or anything with threads or fibers. You can find nesting materials made for canaries for sale online. Because eggs are laid a day apart, or sometimes daily, some birds wait until all are laid before they sit on them, so that all of the chicks hatch about the same time. The eggs will only hatch is she or the male sits on them around the clock. They will leave the nest for a few minutes to eat and drink. Some birds do not figure out what to do the first time. There is nothing you can do about this. Give them time to learn and maybe they will do things right the next time. You need to remove the nest in between each clutch, even if the eggs do not hatch. Rest the pair for 4-6 months before returning the nest. You need to be feeding a formulated canary pellet or granule, a small amount of seeds, leafy greens, chopped veggies and an egg food. This can be a commercial dry egg food or you can cook an egg with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the egg. You can also feed an insect mix which you can find commercially.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
