Canary feathers

My canary has been plucking at his feathers & has made himself red & a little bald. Im not sure if it’s mites or something else. I bought an anti mite spray. Will it heal itself & feathers got back?

Answer:

Thanks for reaching out to Ask Lafeber. Some mite sprays can be irritating to birds.  It’s always best to know if your bird actually has mites before treating him for it.  You don’t want to use any product without consulting your veterinarian.  Your bird may have a bacterial or a fungal infection and if you spray an insecticide on his skin, it may do more harm than good.

If you do not have an avian vet in your area, you can find a list of avian veterinarians hopefully in your area on the Lafeber web site.
Regards,
Debbie
