Canary hen laid eggs 1 day after our male canary died.

I have a question. I had two pair of canary’s male and female they got along really well. The mail would help the hen build the nest. Unfortunately, our male Canary passed away one day before the hen laid an egg. How can we help her?

Answer:

Hi,

The best thing to do would be to remove the nest right away and discard the eggs. It takes at least 48 hours for any development to begin. The male helps the hen and it would be very hard for a single bird to incubate eggs and raise chicks. The male usually does a lot of the feeding. It will be much harder to watch the chicks die from not being cared for, or have your hen die from exhaustion than to discard the eggs now. I’m sorry about the male. But now it’s time to think about the hen and do what is best for her.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
