Canary leg

Two weeks ago my canary started tucking one leg under his wing. Eating singing as usual. Temperature is at 70. It is the foot where Id band is on. Should I be concerned? Male is one year old.

Answer:

Hi,

There can be many reasons why a bird might do this. Have you checked the leg to make sure it isn’t swollen? Sometimes a leg band is too tight and the leg can swell, or the bird injured the leg and it swells, making the leg band too tight. The best thing to do is take him to an Avian Vet to have him checked out.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
