Finches

Moved 4wk old finches into their own cage, eating & drinking on their own. Can I leave them in the same room that the parents are in?

Answer:

Hi,

Yes, they can be in the same room, just not in the same cage. And as soon as you can tell what sex the chicks are, you need to separate them by gender. Otherwise they will try to mate with each other, sometimes as young as six months old. Right now the parents should not have a nest. You should always rest them for 4-6 months between clutches. They do not need a nest except when they are breeding. The chicks should not have a nest at all.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
