Found lovebird

I saw a lovebird eating from my wild bird feeder this morning. Must be someone’s pet that got out. If I see it again, how would I be able to catch it?

Answer:

Hi Megan,

They can be pretty hard to catch if they don’t want to be caught. Depending on where you live, he might belong to a flock of escaped pets & breeders. There are flocks in California, Arizona, Texas & Florida that we know of. If he was comfortable at the feeder, he has probably been out for some time since he has learned about bird feeders. You can contact 911 Parrot Alert and report a found bird, and there are sites that give advice on recapturing a parrot, but these mostly work with a recently lost bird that is sitting in a tree out of reach, but has no idea what to do. You can try setting up a cage with food in it to lure him in. And if you can get him wet, he can’t fly. But you would have to soak him and if you fail, he will be scared off and likely not return.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
