Hatching eggs

I noticed the egg wanting to open but it’s been 2 days and nothing, should I just leave it alone.

Answer:

Thank you for reaching out to Ask Lafeber.

Depending on the species of the birds.  Larger birds like macaws and cockatoos can take a little longer than some of the smaller species such as cockatiels, budgies and lovebirds.  An important thing to do is listen to see if the chick inside is vocalizing.  If it’s not, the chick may have expired already.  If it is vocalizing and is actually screaming in the egg, it may need assistance hatching.  If that is the case, I strongly urge you to call our customer service number as soon as possible and give them a contact number and I will be happy to walk you through the process. If the chick inside is not vocalizing, I suggest smelling the egg to determine if it has a foul odor.  If it does, it’s a clear sign the chick didn’t make it.
Again, if you feel you need assistance with this, please call our customer service number at 800-842-6445, and I will be happy to call you back and walk you through an assisted hatch.
Kind regards,
Debbie
