How to stop egg laying
I have two female zebra finches who have been laying almost every day for 3 months now. I am a busy college student and have done all I can to dissuade them, but nothing seems to work! I move their cage into my living room every day while I’m out to change their environment and increase interaction the house is busy, and I put them to bed (covered) in my bedroom for 10 hours every night. They have a swing that they love playing on and four perches of varying heights and angles to keep their environment dynamic. They also have several toys, as well as fake leaves hanging from the top of their cage, that they consistently play and interact with. We even have a cat in the house who enjoys watching them, but they don’t seem to care or be stressed out by this. I free feed them pellets, they have a small permanent dish of grit for calcium, and I give them some spinach every morning. They don’t seem to have strong parental instincts, as they don’t really try to incubate the eggs (just sitting next to them instead of on top, or letting them roll free around the cage). They don’t have any nesting material, and I have tried both leaving the eggs in and taking them away. Is there anything more I could be doing to get them to stop ?
