Indian ringneck limping while walking

Hi I’ve been having an Indian ringneck of 4 years old and he was always active. He is not tamed. He was completely fine until yesterday but when I woke up this morning and checked on him he was limping while walking. I don’t know what happened. There is a little bit of steel wiring around the cage I don’t know if that’s what troubled him. He has been living in this cage for 2 years and it hasn’t seemed to be a problem. I do let him and the cockatiels outside and fly around. He is still eating well and doing his stuff normally but when he walks he just limps. There is no vet nearby and the vet I’ve been to doesn’t know anything about birds. So i would appreciate if you could tell me what I should do about him. Thank you

Answer:

Hi,

Unfortunately I can’t begin to tell you what the problem is because there can be a lot of causes for limping. Without vet care, all you can do is hope it is an injury and that he recovers. You can limit his activity to help him heal in case it is from an injury. I know it’s hard to understand why a bird can’t be diagnosed just from a symptom. We recently had a webinar on this topic so I’ll give you the link to help you understand that I’m not being difficult, but I can’t possibly know what is wrong with him.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
