Infected eye

Hi, it’s me Lina again. I’ve come to find out that my zebra finch has conjunctivitis and that it’s treatable with some terramycin ointment. I did notice though that my zebra finch keeps scratching and rubbing his face on the perch. Is there anyway I can prevent him from doing that once I’ve put the ointment on him? perhaps remove the perches? I’ve also been wondering if I should clean the infected area prior to applying ointment with a warm wet cotton ball or anything else. And what time frame do I have to wait to reapply the ointment again? I also want to ask if pfizer terramycin ointment is a good option to use. If not what is a better option to choose from?

Answer:

Hi,

As I replied before, the best chance for the bird is Vet care. If a Vet prescribed this ointment, then the Vet should be able to answer your questions. We are not a Veterinary service and can’t give Vet advice. If you have self diagnosed this by reading on the internet, you can’t know if this is in fact conjunctivitis – which is only the description of the symptoms. There are many things that can cause it and giving the wrong treatment can cause more harm than good. I’m sorry but this is the most help we can offer.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
