Lovebirds pairing confusion.

I have 2 lovebirds recently bought by a breeder he told that they are male and female. According to him green was male and yellow lutino was female but i see sometimes green climbing on yellow and sometimes yellow on green(green more)green share food also yellow bites harder and shred more paper. I am confuse whether is male or female or both r male. I also want to ask do male lay egs.

Answer:

Hi,

They may just not be old enough to be paired. Lovebirds should be at least 2 years old to be paired for breeding. They could both be the same sex. But the females typically are more territorial and aggressive. However unless the birds were hand raised, either sex would be likely to bite. If there have been eggs laid, then you have at least one female. Males do not lay eggs. You can wait and see what happens or you can have DNA tests run to determine their sexes.
