Nesting issue

Hey my female layer eggs and unfortunately is not incubating them. I am not sure what to do because everytime I get close to the cage to change the water and or food my male is snapping it’s been 5 weeks now. And I’m not sure if I should take the eggs out of the wooden box. Please any advice or tips will help

Answer:

Hi John,

If she hasn’t been sitting on the eggs, then they are not going to hatch. Go ahead and remove the nest box and discard the eggs. Rest the pair for at least 6 months before you give them the nest box again. Then let them try again and maybe she will do better next time. Not all birds will be good breeders, so if she still shows no interest in the eggs next time, then it’s probably best not to try to breed this pair again.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
