One of my Lovebirds flew away.

I bought two Lovebirds last March 2023. One being the color blue and white, the other being orange and yellow.
Well fast forward to the end of June 2024. The orange and yellow bird some how must of finally decided to fly out of small hole I have in my bedroom window. Doing that left it’s partner behind alone. I have not found the orange and yellow bird nor has it came back on its own to join it’s partner. I leave my window open hoping that it will return.

That being said::
IS IT NORMAL FOR LOVEBIRDS TO LEAVE THIER PARTNERS? IS IT COMMON BEHAVIOR FOR LOVEBIRDS TO FLY AWAY FROM ONE NEVER TO RETURN BACK?

Answer:

Hi,

When a pet bird escapes, they usually fly a long way and do not know how to find their way back home. Sometimes something happens to the bird – it may get caught by a person, or a predator, it might starve. It has nothing to do with the mate. All parrots like to explore, but if they get outdoors, they usually get scared. They aren’t thinking of anything but finding a place to land, and by then they are usually lost. After so much time, it’s unlikely the bird will find its way back to you.
