Parakeets

Both my parakeets are a light blue and a dark blue
The dark blue has blue by nostrils the light colored parakeet has just a little spot if blue above nostrils How to tell if female and male

Answer:

Hi Lisa,

You want to look at the cere which is the skin that surrounds the nostrils. In adult males, it is blue and in adult females it is white or brown, when she is in breeding condition. This applies to birds about 1 year old or older. In some of the color mutations, the cere does not change and will be a pale lavender or pink – this is generally in the pale colors or solids like yellow or white. So it sounds like your light blue bird might be a female, but it may never be obvious by the cere color.
