Peanuts 🥜

I just purchased a bag of Parrot Fiesta Parrot Food. This food come with all different kinds of peanuts. Why in the world would anyone use peanuts in a Bird Food, if not good to eat? This is so wrong on the manufacturer’s part. It states, Not too much Peanuts. So then don’t make any Parrot foods w/peanuts. We all know Avacado is a no no! Keep true to your reports.

Answer:

Hi Gayle,

As for this food you purchased, you will need to contact the manufacturer with any questions about the contents. This is not a product that we make, so I can’t comment on it.

I can assure you that all of our nutrition & ingredients are based on science. As for peanuts, there is nothing wrong with feeding peanuts to your birds in moderation. The concern about peanuts is that they can be contaminated with aflatoxins. We do use peanuts in our diets. We only use human grade, fresh peanuts and all batches are independently lab tested for aflatoxins as an added safety measure. If you buy peanuts for your birds, Vets & nutrition experts recommend fresh, human grade peanuts that have been dry roasted, no salt added and stored in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Peanuts are a healthy, nutritious legume with many health benefits that are found in true nuts. You can offer them along with other healthy table foods, nuts and nutritious treats as 20% of your pet bird’s daily diet. Your bird’s diet should be 80% nutritionally balanced food such as pellets – a loose seed diet should not be fed as the main diet, only as an occasional treat. Loose seeds do not offer much in the way of nutrition because they usually are not fresh enough to retain their natural nutrients, and any added vitamins are lost when the bird removes the hull. We do make foraging diets that contain the same ingredients as pellets, but are not ground up. We use fresh, human grade seeds with the hulls removed, combined with other whole ingredients and all are coated with a nutritionally balanced binder, so that the bird gets complete nutrition in every bite.
