Rainbow Lorikeets weaning

My 7 week and a few days old rainbow lorikeet is starting to refuse to eat of the spoon and I offered them some adult dry mix tonight and they both tried it and slowly ate it and I was wondering how I wean them now. Do I keep feeding them both feed the hand rearing wet mix with spoon or just the dry adult mix every feeding or what do I do now.

Answer:

Hi,

You should offer a variety of foods to wean a baby parrot. Offer the adult food – dry and wet – veggies, fruits, greens, and some formula in a cup or the spoon. Replenish throughout the day as needed. The baby needs to have a chance to explore different foods while learning to self feed. It may go back and forth between self feeding and eating from the spoon. Never just cut a chick off from formula, because it is normal for them to revert during the weaning process.
