Sudden budgie death

Hi. I just lost my second beloved parakeet. She was sitting on her food bowl and then suddenly fell over. Not even 15 minutes later she died. We had a bird before her do this but we thought that he died from something in his liver because he turned fully yellow( he was an albino). The cage is a small store bought cage big enough for 1 too 2 parakeets. Please help me. I can’t keep losing my babies.

Answer:

Hi,

I’m sorry for your loss, but there is no way to know why the birds died without a Vet exam. There are countless reasons why a bird might die. If they died close together, then they may have had a disease. But there are also a lot of possible toxins in a home. Birds can die from almost any strong fume, such as from cleaners, room fresheners, perfume, etc. Before you get another bird, you need to do more research on taking care of one, which includes a healthy diet, clean cage, plenty of toys, handling the bird regularly and making sure there is nothing dangerous in the home. You can find most of the information you need on this website, and you should search for information on household dangers and toxins.

Take care,

Brenda
