Sudden death of my cocatiel

In the early morning I heard my bird hit his cage or something and I jumped up and found him head down in him water dish ,I don’t know if he fell off his perch or was drinking and choked?

I’m so sorry for your loss. Most likely your bird died and just happened to end up in the water bowl. When birds die, it often happens quickly. There is no way to know why he died without taking his body to an Avian Vet for testing.
