Sun conure vs jenday

Can a jenday have a large amount of yellow on it’s back and wings. There were also sun babies in with him when we got him. Could we have gotten a sun by mistake. At 11 weeks they look so much alike.

Answer:

Hi Christine,

If there is a lot of yellow, then probably you have a Sun or maybe a Sun X Jenday hybrid, known as a Sunday. If this is a young bird that hasn’t had a first molt, then it could be diet or health related. It wouldn’t hurt to take the bird to an Avian Vet for a check up and bloodwork, if you haven’t had that done yet. Some health issues, especially liver disease, can cause feather color changes. More likely it’s one of the species above, but if you have any concerns about him, then it’s time for a Vet check.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
