Two male lovebirds mating

Hi I have three lovebirds, one is a Rosy-faced lovebird and the other is a Fischer lovebird, I didn’t know much about these birds before and they have a baby bird that is 1 year old now, I’m pretty sure it’s a boy, now lately I’ve seen his father and him mating when his mother doesn’t want anything to do with the male, I feel like this is not normal and I usually separate them when I see this. but my question is is this normal, what should I do? we are two boys and it’s father and son.
the father lovebird only uses his son to mate with him otherwise they two are never together when they are outside, the male is always with the female.
(Now I know it’s not good to mix the two types of birds but now they have become a pair)

Answer:

Hi,

Offspring should always be separated from the parents once they are weaned. You should never allow related birds to breed. I would keep the grown chick separated from the parents and not allow this behavior anymore.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
