What should i do?

A few days ago i found my bird lying flat on her back barely breathing, we massaged her a bit then took her to the vet later in the day as she didn t have a grip in her feet as strong and she kept her eyes half close, it was as if she was trying to fall asleep but it wasn t her sleeping time, she was just overall very weak. The vet “gave her some fluids to flush her system” and a pill that sounded similar to penicilin i think but something else. Then they gave me something else to give her twice a day. The thing is they want to see me again and do the same stuff again but they don t know what actually is wrong with her, i am extremely low on money this exact month but i ve had Lola for 12 years, she s my family. Idk if i should go to the doctor again or not. I m not sure if i can trust her. When they called me to pick her up from the vet a nurse told me she s doing better, when i get there the vet tells me she s neither better nor worse, when i see lola she s actually better like the nurse said. I have been giving her the medicine roughly every 12 hours and she seems to be better. What should i do?

Answer:

Hi,

You can always seek a second opinion from another Vet. But definitely do that or keep the followup appointment. I’m sorry Lola is so sick. She is old for a lovebird. They can live much longer, but 10-12 is an average life span.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
