Zebra finch death

Hi.

Just lost one of a pair of zebra finch. Should I remove the body straight away or leave for a while so his partner can realise/grieve.

Thank you

Answer:

Hi Elisabeth,

I’m sorry to hear about your little finch. As long as the mate has seen him, then you can remove him. I do think it is important for a mate or other birds in the room to see the body, but they don’t seem to need to linger or spend time. Mine have always looked, and appeared to have some understanding but that is the extent of it. Keep an eye on the mate and make sure she is eating. Most likely she will be subdued for a few days, but she should be fine.

Take care,

Brenda
