Zebra Finch Weaning Baby

My zebra Finch had 2 babies, one of the baby today left the nest. I leave the cage door always open, the baby flew out of cage. What should I do for the weaning birds

Answer:

Hi,

You need to close the cage door until the chicks are weaned, otherwise the parents might let them die. After the last chick leaves the nest, take the nest away. The parents need to wean the chicks and not nest again yet. As soon as the chicks are weaned, they need to be moved to another cage. Since you let your birds fly loose, the best thing to do is find homes for the chicks. Otherwise when they are old enough, they will breed with each other or breed with the parents, and related birds should never be allowed to breed. Rest the parents for at least 4-6 months before you give the nest back to them.
