Beak

Hello! My search keeps bringing me to your site (which I quite love, by the way). My baby Timneh is learning to climb…she hangs by her beak!!! It’s frightening – is it safe??

Answer:

Hi Denise,

I’m glad you enjoy our site.

Hanging from the beak is perfectly normal. However, baby parrots can be vert clumsy so if the cage is really large, I recommend removing the metal grate on the bottom of the cage if there is one, or padding it with paper if it can’t be removed. This will help if she does fall. As she gets older and is more sure of herself, you can replace the grate or remove the padding.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
