beginner bird?

Hello! I’m thinking about getting a bird, and I would really love to one day get a highly social parrot, however I’ve never owned a bird before so I want to take care of an easy beginner bird before I take in a parrot. Do you have any suggestions as to what “beginner” birds I should look at?

Answer:

Hi Jamie,

Any bird you get will be some species of parrot, if you are wanting a bird you can handle. There are no “beginner or starter” birds. Whatever you get is likely to live for a long time, so make sure you are ready for that commitment. Some species make better first birds than others. You need to get a hand fed bird or you will not be able to handle it. Hand fed cockatiels, parakeets or lovebirds can be a good first bird. But you need to do a lot of research on different breeds as well as bird card before you get a bird. Please check out the links below to get started.
