Mating

I have love birds who mate all the time but haven’t layed an egg what does that mean?

Answer:

Hi Sonya,

Mating does not always lead to egg laying. Do you have a nest box for them yet? If you want to successfully breed your birds, then you need to get them a nestbox for lovebirds. This is a large wooden box which will attach to the outside of the cage.  I recommend you research how to breed lovebirds to see if this is something you want to do. It involves buying a box, nesting material and possibly a larger cage, as well as having a second cage available for the chicks once they are weaned, and a lot of extra foods for the parents. Keep in mind that even once you set them up properly for breeding, they may not lay eggs or successfully raise chicks.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
