new boarders

I had one pet cockatiel and a week ago rescued 2 cockatiels when their owner passed away.. Will the 3 get along eventually? The two are 5 & 6, mine is 4 and quickly put the 2 in their place. The newcomers have their cage but can come out when desired. Mine is in his own cage but only at night. Any advice? All have their own dishes, no problem eating.

Answer:

Hi Patricia,

The birds need to be kept in their respective cages. It is never a good idea to have an odd number of birds in a cage. Your bird will end up being bullied and attacked if the other two are bonded. Or he could b9nd with one and leave the other bird out. In either case, you risk losing him as a pet because he is likely to prefer being with other birds. As far as all being outside of the cage together, this will take time and may or may not work out. It’s the same scenario as trying to cage all three together except they could get away from each other more easily when out of the cage.
