Budgie nesting behavior

My female has been inside her box now for over 30 hours now, so I’m expecting her to lay her first egg very soon. The pairs for mmn er owners said that she never uses much nesting material. Shes chewed a hole the size of a quarter in the front of the box on the opposite side of the entrance. Why di you think she’s done this?

Answer:

Hi Ricky,

It’s normal for her to chew on the nest box. She’s just trying to get it the way she wants it. If the nest box is on the outside of the cage and the hole she chewed could let her escape into your house, then you will need to keep an eye on it and see about covering it with something if she chews it much larger.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
