Cockatiel

I adopted a lost Cockatiel a month ago. I’m certain it is a Male (from what I’ve read). Someone taught him “pretty bird” and has been very friendly and when I put my finger in his cage would come for a lengthy head scratch.
Question: All of a sudden, he wants nothing to do with my hand in the cage, runs to other side if I try to pet him, sits in his food bowl at night, bangs his beak sometimes making screeching noises. (this all just started). Why is this happening and will he ever let me pet him again?

When you found him, he was probably traumatized and very hungry. When a bird isn’t feeling well, they can actually get very sweet even if they were not before. Now that he has settled in, you may be seeing more what he is actually like. Plus he is missing his home and his previous owner. Cockatiels can fly a long way when they are lost, so if you haven’t checked lost bird websites online, I would recommend it just in case.

It’s hard to say if he will be a good pet. Spend time talking to him and don’t try to force him to come to you. Never try to grab him because this is what a predator will do.
