parakeets

is it safe to put to same sex parakeets in one cage

Answer:

Hi Patsy,

Generally yes, but there can always be exceptions. The main rule is have an even number of birds in a cage, even if they are all the same sex. If adding a new bird, the birds should be kept in cages side by side and gradually introduced to the same cage. You should watch them closely for the first few hours, and then keep checking on them for the next few days. Have a food and water dish for each bird so one bird can’t keep the other from accessing it. Some squabbling is OK, but serious fights that involve pulling out feathers or drawing blood means the birds have to be separated and aren’t going to be able to share a cage. Two male parakeets will generally get along better than two females.
