My budgies are not breeding and some budgies are not sitting on the eggs

Answer:

Hi Karan,

It takes a lot of patience to breed birds. One thing you will learn is that you can have everything set up the right way and still not have success. You should only have one pair per cage. American budgies have been colony bred, but you need large walk-in aviaries and a lot of maintenance to prevent inbreeding. The more selectively bred English Budgies are bred with one pair per cage. Breeder birds need a lot of privacy, so don’t check on them too often. They need a nutritionally balanced diet – not a seed mix – chopped veggies and fruits, dark leafy greens, cooked eggs and multi grain bread. And they need the right kind of nest box. There are a lot of open nests sold online that are labeled for parakeets but these are not the right type of nest. Budgies need an enclosed nest box which should be affixed to the outside of the cage, as high up as possible. If they have everything they need, all you can do is give them privacy and hope they get things right. Most pairs will fail once or twice before they have success.
